SAPS Duduza hosts awareness campaign in honour of murdered 4-year-old

Her mutilated body was discovered next to Spaarwater Dam the next day.

Members from SAPS Duduza, in partnership with the Youth Crime Prevention Unit, hosted a Child Abduction Prevention and Awareness campaign on October 16. Which they provided parents from the local community with tips and information to keep their children safe.

According to police spokesperson Const Harry Manaka, the campaign was held in honour of 4-year-old Bokamoso Tsotetsi from Duduza, who was brutally murdered on October 5.

“Around 127 pamphlets containing valuable information were distributed among members of the community. Parents were also advised to immediately report a missing child and not wait for 24 hours,” Const Manaka said and stressed the importance of having a recent photo of your child.

Parents were discouraged from leaving young children in the care of other children.

“When it comes to kidnapping, the more knowledge both the parent and child have, the better their chances of identifying kidnappers and preventing the unthinkable from happening.

The last thing you want to do is instill a sense of fear in your child, but a healthy awareness of the dangers of the world could end up saving their lives,” Const Manaka explained.

The campaign, which continued until October 17, concluded with a questions-and-answers session headed by police officers.
