Heidelberg crime report 14 to 21 October
Police are investigating a case of theft, following a break-in which occurred at a house in Spruyt Street on October 14.
According to acting police spokesperson Sgt Nellie Dwaba, thugs forcefully gained entrance to the property through a security gate, while the home owners had been out of town for the weekend. They made off with a lawnmower, ladder and paint.
Several cases of tampering with and damage to property had been reported to the police the past week, after the theft of palisade fences. Residents and business owners are warned to be aware of increasing cases of theft and to implement the necessary measures to protect their palisade fences.
A motorist was charged with reckless and negligent driving, after he caused an accident with a truck on the R23 Balfour Road on October 15.
A burglary occurred at a house in Roets Street on October 15 where a grinder, drilling machine and several other electrical items worth around
R3 000 had been reported stolen.
A house robbery occurred in Third Avenue, Jordaanpark on October 16. According to Sgt Dwaba, three men who were driving in a white Jeep, forcefully entered the house by breaking open the front door with a crow bar. The suspects allegedly assaulted the domestic worker and locked her up in one of the bedrooms, before looting the house. They fled the scene with electrical appliances and jewellery. No arrests have been made.
Police are also investigating a case of theft, following the theft of an electrical gate battery from a house in Graham Street on October 16.
Two batteries were reported stolen from a container situated at a Telkom tower on the R42 between Heidelberg and Nigel on October 16.
A burglary occurred at a house in Nel Street, Rensburg on October 16, where computer hardware and software were reported stolen.
Police are investigating a case of fraud after a resident from Fifth Avenue, Jordaanpark were conned by a fraudster.
According to Sgt Dwaba, the victim reportedly responded to an advertisement of a caravan that was for sale, and contacted the seller thereof. He was apparently told to pay a deposit of R2 000 to secure the deal, but once the victim made the deposit, he could not get hold of the seller by any means and realised he had been conned.
A burglary occurred at a house in Viljoen Street on October 19 where a laptop, tablets and jewellery have been reported stolen.
Police are investigating a house robbery which occurred at Spaarwater on October. Three men wearing balaclavas reportedly robbed the victim at knife point.
An armed robbery occurred at Malva Street, Bergsig on October 19 when a couple went to look at a house they were interested in buying. While waiting for the agent to arrive, the couple was robbed at gunpoint by an African male. He fled the scene with money, a tablet and their cellphones.
An armed robbery occurred at a business in Voortrekker Street on October 20 where the suspect made off with cash, a cellphone, bank cards and ID documents.
Five suspects were caught by the police and charged with armed robbery, after an incident that occurred at a business in Schoeman Street on October 21. According to Sgt Dwaba, an employee was behind the shop counter when a group of African men entered and pretended to be customers. One of the suspects produced a firearm and aimed it at the employee, while the others climbed over the counter to reach the cash register. After taking money from the cash register, two suspects allegedly jumped into a minibus that was parked outside the shop, while three others fled on foot. The employee flagged down a police vehicle that was patrolling the area and after searching for a while, all five suspects were caught.
