Police on the search for suspects of Duduza ATM bombing

DUDUZA – A Capitec ATM situated near a Liquor Store in Montoedi Street, was bombed on October 9.

SAPS Duduza spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka said the incident occurred around 02:00 when two loud explosions were reportedly heard by local residents.

“The explosions were followed by the sound of vehicles speeding away. SAPS Duduza sector patrol vehicles immediately responded but upon arrival, they discovered that the perpetrators had already fled the scene with the money,” Sgt Manaka said.

Details pertaining to the amount of cash that was stolen during the bombing will be released later.

The scene was secured and the Gauteng Provincial Investigation Unit was summoned. SAPS Duduza station commander Lt Col Bheki Mhlungu condemned the bombing and appealed to residents to be vigilant at all times. He also expressed his relief that no-one was injured during the incident, but warned local business owners to take extra precautions in safeguarding their business infrastructure, especially as we approach the festive season.

Lt Col Mhlungu also appealed to anyone with information that to could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to phone the police crime stop number on 0800 10111 or SAPS Duduza on 071 675 7027.

The Ekurhuleni East Cluster Police are investigating a case of ATM bombing and armed robbery.
