Ratanda swimming pool not yet officially open

A security guard on duty at the Ratanda swimming pool recently had a narrow escape when he was nearly trampled by a group of overenthusiastic children who forced their way into the premises to fend off the heat by taking a splash in the cool water.

Following the incident, Lesedi Local Municipality issued a statement informing residents that the swimming pool is not yet officially open for public use.

“The reason why the swimming pool is not yet open, is due to critical maintenance work on the filtration system. Although the water appears crystal clear to the eye, it does not mean it has been sanitised.

Pool water has to be disinfected from time-to-time to prevent unwanted growth of bacteria or algae. Therefore not yet safe to use.” Municipal spokesperson Arthur Thokoane warned.

Bathers are urged to refrain from unlawfully entering the swimming pool. Thokoane has warned that there is no lifeguard on site to attend to emergencies. Therefor the pool is closed for safety reasons.

“Safety is our first priority and we wish to encourage parents to inform their children of the risks involved,” Thokoane said.
