Heidelberg Crime Report
A burglary occurred at a house in Marshall Street on September 3.
According to police spokesperson Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate, a window was broken to allow access to the house and the victim reported that speakers had been stolen.
Another burglary occurred the same day at a house in Tulpe Street, Bergsig.
The victim reported that a television worth around R4 500, two amplifiers and speaker system of around R10 000 and several electronic appliances worth around R1 000 had been stolen.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a truck driver was reportedly pulled over on the N3 freeway near the Bergsig off-ramp by four unknown men on September 4.
According to police spokesperson Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate, the victim claims that he was ordered to move over to the passenger seat, but he jumped from the truck and started running towards a nearby veld. After jumping over a fence, the victim realised he was shot in the arm. He decided to remain hiding in the veld and after several minutes he noted a police vehicle approaching the area. Only then did the suspects flee the scene in two vehicles (a blue Toyota minibus and dark coloured Corsa bakkie). The victim was treated on the scene by paramedics. No arrests have been made.
A burglary occurred at a business in Romyn Street on September 4.
The victim claimed that he only realised the business had been robbed when he opened the shop for business and was unable to deactivate the alarm system. He then noted the ceiling was cut open to allow access to the shop and discovered that an undisclosed amount of cigarettes had been stolen.
A burglary occurred at a house in Eland Street, Jordaanpark on September 5 where household items to the value of almost R60 000 were reported stolen.
A burglary occurred at a house in Van der Westhuizen Street the same day and according to Capt Tshilate, household items and electronic equipment worth around R50 000 have been stolen.
Police are investigating a carjacking which occurred on the N3 freeway near the Spookbrug on September 5.
The victim, who drove a Toyota Hilux bakkie, was severely injured during the incident.
A burglary occurred the same day at a house in Magnolia Street, where household items to the value of around R4 500 had been reported stolen.
Another carjacking occurred the same day near De Hoek Plaza on the N3 freeway towards Heidelberg.
The driver told police he was travelling towards Johannesburg with two female passengers. When approaching the tollgate, the hitchhikers allegedly asked the driver to pull over for them to get out. Before he could stop the vehicle, he was bumped by another vehicle from behind. He was forced out of his vehicle and ordered to lie in the bushes where he waited until he could alert authorities.
Police are investigating a case of common assault following an incident which occurred in Strydom Street on September 5. No arrests have been made.
Several assault cases have been reported between 5 and 9 September and police are investigating the complaints.
A robbery occurred at the Department of Transport in Station Street on September 6, where a group of suspects overpowered a worker in the early hours of the morning. After tying the victim’s hands and feet, he was robbed of his cellphone and cash.
A suspect was arrested for possession of presumed stolen property in Shalimar Ridge on September 7, while another was arrested the same day for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
Several suspects were arrested by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol and possession of drugs between 6 and 9 September.
They are expected to appear in Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
A house robbery occurred on a farm at Schikfontein on September 8.
The victim was threatened at knife-point and robbed of cash. Three suspects (one of which a minor) were later arrested.
Two cases of theft had been reported on September 8.
One incident occurred in Liebenberg Street and the other in AG Visser Street.
