HEIDELBERG:

Shoprite Heidelberg was part of Shoprite Group Africa’s biggest clean-up drive – doing its bit for Mandela Day.

This year, the Shoprite group staged the biggest clean-up in Africa, involving over 6000 staff members and volunteers across nine countries.

To honour the late Madiba, management and staff from Shoprite Heidelberg rolled up their sleeves and descended on Heidelberg Taxi Rank on July 17, where they spent most of the day picking up litter and cleaning the taxi rank and surrounding area next to the Blesbokspruit.

Heidelberg Hospital’s top management members Dr Ronnie Maselela (CEO), Dr Bonolo Moalusi (chief medical officer), Lydia Msiza (chief nursing services manager), Samuel Mashishi (manager: admin support services) and Bongani Mtetwa (pharmacy manager) joined hands with other pharmacy staff members to hand out gift bags to patients on Madiba Day.

The Department of Social Development visited Friends of the Orphans in Rensburg on Madiba Day where they spent 67 minutes cleaning the premises and painting the buildings.

Sunet Nel Bookkeepers visited local schools where they handed out pizza, colddrinks and gift bags to less privileged learners.

NIGEL:

Clicks at The Angelo Mall donated sanitary pads to female learners at Dan Radebe Primary School in Duduza.

ALRAPARK:

In celebration of Nelson Mandela Day, the City of Ekurhuleni’s Men’s Forum, Women Empowerment Forum and other stakeholders visited the SANCA clinic in Alrapark, where they donated a variety of vegetable seedlings to supplement the non-profit organisation’s self-sustainable vegetable garden.

They also donated a brand new pressure washer and vacuum cleaner, which will soon be put to good use when SANCA opens its new car wash bay, as part of its initiative to provide employment to recovering drug addicts from the local community.

DUDUZA:

SAPS Duduza partnered with staff members from Seton SA Leather in Vorsterskroon and members of the Duduza CPF on Madiba Day to give the Nigel Caring Community Centre a much needed face-lift. The centre was revived with a new coat of paint and speaking on behalf of Seton, Sello Mazibuko emphasised the importance of giving back to the community through various structures. SAPS Duduza station commander Lt Col Bheki Mhlungu also participated in the Madiba Day celebrations.

BALFOUR:

Staff members from SAPS Balfour and the Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit visited 113-year-old Siyathemba resident Roseline Morajane on Madiba Day – surprising her with a special belated birthday cake, groceries and blanket as part of the 67 Minutes for Madiba initiative on July 18.
