A burglary occurred at a house in Van der Westhuizen Street on June 14, where thugs made off with garden equipment and tools worth around R10 000.

 
Police arrested a male on June 15 on a charge of contravention of a protection order, after he continued to harass and threaten a local police officer, despite a court order which was granted in March. The suspect is expected to appear in Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.

 
Police are investigating a case of theft, following an incident that occurred at a local butchery on June 15. According to police spokesperson Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate, a suspect was arrested and charged with theft for stealing a co-worker’s cellphone. The cellphone was found in the suspect’s possession at the time of his arrest.

 
Following a shooting incident which occurred on the N3 outside Heidelberg on June 15, police are investigating a case of attempted murder. According to Capt Tshilate, around five shots were reportedly fired at a driver who was escorting a truck. It is believed that the suspects (who drove a white VW Golf) were attempting to hijack the truck. However, when the driver of the escort vehicle returned fire and guided the truck into the weighbridge area, the suspects sped away.

 
Police are investigating a case of copper cable theft, after Transnet cables worth around R30 000 were stolen on June 16. This resulted in the disruption of train services in the area. No arrests have been made.

 
A handbag containing R500 cash was reported stolen at a hostel in Shalimar Ridge on June 15. Although the suspect has been identified, no arrest has been made yet.

 
A fridge and double bed were reported stolen on June 15, after it had been removed from storage at a house in Siphiwe Village, Sedaven and sold to a local secondhand dealer in town. Police are investigating a case of theft.

 
SAPS Heidelberg has issued a warning to residents to protect their outside geysers and air conditioners with brackets or grid caging, as theft of copper cables in residential areas has increased over the past few weeks. According to Capt Tshilate, it is a new trend of thugs to target houses where geysers and air conditioners are visible from the street.

 
Although reported cases of theft of gate motors and batteries have decreased slightly, Capt Tshilate has warned residents to protect their gate motors with a specialised bracket that will prevent thugs from removing the motor or battery.
