Police hunt for suspect who fired shots at railway security outside Heidelberg

Police are on the hunt for a suspect who fired several shots and injured a security guard who was patrolling the railway line along the Glenroy farming area outside Heidelberg.

According to police spokesperson Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate, the shooting occurred around 02:45 on June 6 when security guards who were monitoring a stationery goods train, heard gunshots.

 

“It was reported that the suspect fired shots at the patrolling vehicle as it drove past the stationery train. The bullet entered the passenger’s door and hit the driver in the leg. He was later transported to Netcare Union Hospital in Alberton for medical treatment,” capt Tshilate said.

Police recovered boxes containing stolen goods and several empty cartridges on the scene.
