Another robbery occurred around 12:00 on May 22 when five suspects walked in pretending to be customers. One suspect reportedly produced a firearm which he aimed at a cashier, while other employees were taken and locked inside a store room at the back of the shop.
Employees later told police the suspect spoke Zulu and only demanded cellphones during the robbery. They fled the scene in a silver Hyundai Elantra.
In a statement issued shortly after the robbery, mall manager Lebogang Legwale said no shots were fired and nobody was injured.
“The on-site security company is working hand-in-hand with the police to investigate the robbery. Customers can be assured that the mall has a 24 hour on-site security team to ensure the safety of our customers. We have a zero tolerance approach to any criminal activities taking place at the mall,” she said.
Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that the suspects are still at large.
