SAPS intervention required to re-establish CPF structure

A meeting was called by the executive board of Nigel Community on Patrol (NCOP) to liaise and discuss the primary objective of a well functioning policing forum structure and to determine the way forward in protecting the greater Nigel Community.

The meeting took place at Nigel Police Station on October 24 and was attended by NCOP representatives, CPF cluster chairperson Lucas Mbogazi , Vispol head Capt Z Nkhabelane, SAPS Nigel station commander Col S Mohale and sector managers.

Its main objective was to establish a partnership with the police, to ensure effective protection of the community.

According to SAPS Nigel station commander Col S Mohale, urgent intervention is required as the existing CPF structure in Nigel had collapsed as a result of non-compliance with the Act.

SAPS Nigel, together with the sector managers and the CPF chairperson will meet with residents during November, to elect and appoint a new CPF executive board.

The date of the AGM has not yet been determined and will be published in HERAUT as soon as it becomes available.

Meanwhile, NCOP continues to operate as a neighbourhood watch. It shares the same objectives as the CPF and also complies in terms of vetting and registering its members on a database.
