Good Samaritan donates big to help nine-year-old

UPDATE: Heraut just received information that a Heidelberg resident made a R35 000 donation towards Anuschka Pieters’ medical bills.

Child Medi Organisation posted the following information on their Facebook page:

“Goeie dag almal. Ons wil graag vra dat geen verdere donasies gemaak word nie. Ons het met die Pappa gesels en sy gaan nou oorgeplaas word na die Sunshine Hospitaal in Benoni. Ons sal dan met die fondse reeds ontvang help met haar herstel proses en fisio of enige ander mediese onkostes wat sy dan sal benodig. Baie dankie vir almal se bydraes en omgee! Ons waardeer dit opreg.”

Earlier today:

Nine-year-old Anuschka Pieters is lucky to be alive after she and her fellow gymnastics friends were involved in an accident on the N3 outside Heidelberg on August 23.

Five people died in the crash while several others sustained serious injuries. It was later confirmed that seven trucks and five cars were involved in the crash which forced officials to close the busy highway at the Kliprivier offramp.

The N3 north is likely to remain closed for the rest of today while the cleanup process continues.

The Pieters family is seeking assistance to help foot the medical bills of their daughter.

Child Medi Organisation shared the following post:

After yesterday gruesome accident on the N3 near Heidelberg where 7 trucks and 5 cars were involved and 5 people lost their lives we come and beg for help for little 9 year old Aunschka Pieters. The accident happened due to a veld fire which caused poor visibility.
“Our daughter Anuschka was one of 4 children in the car on their way to gymnastic exercise yesterday. Luckily the other children were discharged with minor injuries. Anuschka was not that lucky. She broke 2 vertebrae in her back and damaged another 2. After the accident she was taken to the Suikerbosrand Hospital but in the early hours of this morning they transferred her to the Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg because we do not have medical aid. After she was admitted there we were told to go home and that we can only see her in visiting hours between 2 and 4 this afternoon. Anuschka is very attached to us and I am sure that she is so scared where she is lying between strangers. Mommy is hysterical and cannot stop crying. Please help us to get our child back in the Life Suikerbosrand Hosptial where we would at least be able to be with her. She must be so scared lying there. As her parents it breaks us into pieces to have to leave our child there alone in this difficult time. Please! Please! Please!
We have spoken to the Life Suikerbosrand Hospital and they want a deposit of R34200 before they will admit her again and then they will determine if an operation will be necessary where after they will quote us for that. We’ve also spoken to ER24 and currently await a quotation from them to know how much they will charge to transfer her. Today we ask that everyone please open their hearts and help this beautiful little girl.
