Don’t post false information on Facebook!

Ratanda woman's posts turn innocent man's life into hell.

Heidelberg police are warning residents not to post defamatory statements about people without making certain of their facts.

This comes after a woman from Ratanda posted a photo of a man (which she took while he was eating in KFC Heidelberg) on May 26 on her Facebook page. She claims that he is sought in connection with human trafficking. She even posted his vehicle registration number and the colour and type of vehicle he is driving.

She also claimed that Heidelberg police were aware of this. Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Viljoen (VISPOL commander) said this is definitely not true and the woman could face a civil charge of defamation against her.

The man in question came to the police station for help after one of his friends made him aware of the Facebook post. He told police that he is now fearing for his life and that it is affecting his career as he can not dare to be seen in public.

Lieutenant Colonel Viljoen confirmed that the man is not a suspect.

The identity of the woman in question is known to the police.
