ANC’s Mzwandile Masina new mayor in Ekurhuleni

NIGEL - The City of Ekurhuleni has a new executive mayor.

 

 

The City is held its inaugural council meeting in Germiston today (August 23), following the August 3 local government elections. All eyes were on the new first citizen who is expected to be elected immediately after the election of the speaker of the house. Shortly thereafter, the votes were in. IEC declared the elections free, fair and transparent with the ANC’s Mzwandile Masine winning with 117 votes over the DA’s Ghaleb Cachalia with 106 votes.

The City Manager has presided over the inaugural meeting of Council until the election of the Speaker, namely Patricia Khumalo.  She won with 117 votes over the DA’s 106 for Shadow Shabangu.

 

Ekurhuleni remained the last of the Gauteng Metros to hold an inaugural council meeting after Tshwane and the City of Johannesburg metros held theirs on Friday and Monday, respectively.
