Scholarship opportunities available at EMM

NIGEL - Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) invites young people to apply for a once in a lifetime scholarship to study in fields that will consolidate the city as an Aerotropolis.

The scholarship offers 20 young people below the age of 35 an opportunity to study at Breda University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands for four years from August 1, 2016 until June 2020. All expenses will be paid and the closing date is April 29 at 16h00.

“The City of Ekurhuleni has adopted a 30 – year Aerotropolis Master Plan as a strategic city development tool to promote and stimulate airport economy around the OR Tambo international Airport. The Ekurhuleni Growth and Development Strategy 2055 identified investment in human development as a priority area of focus in enhancing the growth trajectory of the regional economy of the city as well as in the implementation of the 30-year master plan,” Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor, Cllr Mondli Gungubele said.

The mayor further said that the partnership between the City of Ekurhuleni, the Breda Municipality and Breda University of Applied Sciences will expose 20 successful candidates to specialised programmes in Transportation, Aviation and Logistics.

Prospective students should meet the following set criteria:

* applicants must be residents of Ekurhuleni between the ages of 18 and 35;

* applicants must have interest in studying and pursuing a career in logistics;

* applicants must have obtained an average year mark of no less than 70 percent in matric/Grade 12;

* applicants must not have criminal record;

* successful applicants will be expected to enter into a four-year binding contract with the municipality;

* successful applicants will be subjected to a predefined screening and placement process, which will include psychometric evaluation, written assessments and panel interviews;

* successful candidates will be required to obtain the necessary permits to enable their studies in the Netherlands.

The applicants are further expected to submit the following documents as part of the application process:

* Certified copies of academic records and transcripts;

* Proof of residence;

* 1000 words stating reasons for the application;

* Reference letters from community leaders, spiritual leaders and academia societies;

* Valid passport
