Five arrested shortly after armed robbery at Pep Nigel

NIGEL - Following the armed robbery which occurred around 14:30 at Pep Stores at The Angelo Mall today, five suspects were arrested by the police on the R23.

In a joint operation between the police and Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), the suspects were successfully tracked down in their escape vehicle (a white Toyota Quantum) shortly after speeding away from the crime scene.

A police helicopter was also employed to assist in tracking down the suspect vehicle. EMPD however, discovered that the vehicle had not been reported stolen.

Upon further investigation, police discovered four 9mm pistols and a number of items believed to have been stolen during the armed robbery.

The suspects are detained at SAPS Brakpan and will appear in Brakpan Magistrate’s Court soon.
