Two 4×4 vehicles were involved in an accident on the N3 near the Benoni off-ramp just outside Heidelberg yesterday afternoon at about 16:00. A Toyota Fortuner from KwaZulu-Natal was towing a double cab bakkie towards Johannesburg when the front vehicle experienced problems.
According to the driver, he could not recall exactly what happened, but he suddenly lost control and rammed through the bushes on the middle section.
The towed vehicle hit the front vehicle causing it to flip over the Toyota and into the opposite lane. It rolled over a couple of times before coming to a halt in the middle of the opposite lane. Oncoming traffic just managed to avoid the rolling car.
The driver was seriously injured and taken to Natalspruit Hospital.
The driver of the Toyota managed to escape without any injuries.
