Car with pregnant passenger plummets from bridge

Driver escapes with few scratches, but woman complains of sharp pain.

A pregnant woman was one of two people in a Volkswagen Polo that plummeted eight metres from the HF Verwoerd Street bridge today at 14:00.

The 29 year old woman who is 23 weeks pregnant and the 26 year old driver was travelling from town in the direction of Vereeniging when an oncoming Toyota Venture turned right towards Shalimar Ridge and bumped their vehicle. The driver lost control and the vehicle veered off the bridge and landed next to the R23.

The driver escaped with only a few scratches, but the woman complained about a sharp pain in her right hip and was transported by ambulance to Life Suikerbosrand Clinic.
