Five distinctions for former head girl of Nigel High School

NIGEL - As some of the 171 Grade 12 learners from Nigel High School gathered for their matric results on January 6, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation.

Not only did the school produce an overall pass rate of 98,23%, but also 38 distinctions altogether.
76 Matric learners from the class of 2015 passed with admission to a university Bachelor’s Degree, while 81 passed with admission to a national diploma. Former head girl and top academic achiever Zanele Zwane achieved five distictions, namely Afrikaans (84%), Physical Science (80%), Mathematics (83%), Accounting (89%) and Business Studies (82%).

“On behalf of the teaching corps at Nigel High School, I wish to congratulate every Grade 12 learner on his and her achievement. I also want to thank the teachers and parents for their efforts. We wish all the matric learners well and may their paths ahead be filled with success,” acting principal Mr James Lombard said.

Head girl and top academic achiever of Nigel High School Zanele Zwane obtained five distinctions in the 2015 matric results, namely Afrikaans (84%), Physical Science (80%), Mathematics (83%), Accounting (89%) and Business Studies (82%). She is set on becoming a chartered accountant and has been enrolled for a B Com Accounting Science degree at the University of Pretoria, where she will also commence an honours degree after three years.

“The prelim exam was an eye opener for me. I was dissatisfied with my marks and worked really hard for the final exam. But without the support from my teachers, my parents and my friend Sylvester Machaba, I could not have done it,” Zanele said.

Although Zanele studied hard for her final exam, she kept a healthy balance between learning and her social life.
