Heidelberg anglers and residents phoned HERAUT after they went to the Blesbokspruit over the past weekend and found dead fish everywhere along the banks and stuck on rocks.
“It was a terrible site. This area between Heidelberg Golf Club and Jameson Park is known for its peacefulness and a lot of people use it over weekends for recreational purposes,” Mariana Mare told HERAUT.
She said the stench was unbearable and none of the anglers were able to catch any fish. Sewerage floating in the water might be one of the reasons for the dead fish. Mariana is also very concerned about the birds eating on the remains and the chain reaction that it will create.
