Police Constable from Dunnottar arrested by HAWKS

NIGEL - Four months after the shooting of police officer W/O AV Mahlangu inside the charge office of SAPS Dunnottar, a police constable and another three suspects were arrested.

A 30 year-old police constable from SAPS Dunnottar was arrested by the Hawks on October 27 for allegedly conspiring with three others to rob the station of its firearms on June 8.

W/O Mahlangu who was critically injured during the shooting, remained in hospital for over two months. At the time, the motive of the attack was unknown, but it has since emerged that aim of the suspects was to get access to the safe and steal firearms.

Two suspects are behind bars while the third has been released on R10 000 bail. They will appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court again on November 13.

The constable, whose appointment certificate and identity document are nowhere to be found, will appears in court today (October 28) – facing charges of attempted murder, corruption, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit crime, malicious damage to property, possession of unlicensed firearm  and well as unlawful possession of ammunition.
