Police dogs show off their expertise to school kids

Max and Monroe take no nonsense from criminals.

Members of the Vaalrand K9 dog unit entertained learners of Heidelberg Public School on September 21.

The learners had the chance to see how the dogs in partnership with their handlers, operated in the day to day life of a policeman. Max (a german shepherd) was a hit with the learners when he ran down a ‘criminal’ and managed to detain him until his handler Sergeant Jacques van Rooyen was able to ‘arrest’ the suspect.

Monroe (a rottweiler) together with his handler Constable Muzi Ziqubu showed off his skills as a sniffer dog and managed to show exactly where the illegal substances or drugs were hidden.

Captain Thivhulawi Tshilate from Heidelberg Police Station talked to the learners about abstaining from using drugs and criminal activities. Samantha the Monkey (SANCA’s mascot) accompanied him.
