Gandhi peace walk in progress

The Gandhi peace walk between Johannesburg and Durban, has started.

Participants of the Gandhi peace walk, were welcomed by local residents in Heidelberg on Saturday before they went off to Balfour and Standerton on Sunday.
The 750km walk is the brainchild of The Rising Sun newspaper in partnership with the Mahatma Gandhi Remembrance Organisation in tribute to Gandhi who’s profound spirituality and belief in justice inspired the world.

Gandhi played a significant role in the liberation of the country through the Natal Indian Congress and his role in non-violence. The idea of the march is to promote peace, tolerance, awareness of the great apostle and to raise funds for the Gandhi Trust.

The peace walk will conclude at the Mahatma Gandhi Informal Settlement in Inanda, Durban, on October 2 which also happens to be Gandhi’s remembrance birthday.
