Soccer league resumes

The league resumed matches over the weekend.

The Mackenzieville Alrapark Football Association (MAFA) resumed their league matches last weekend after the two-week level four restrictions.

Cambridge Football Club entered the matches in defence of their three-point lead at the top of the league table.

The team faced Mackenzie Stars at the Jim Fouché Stadium on August 14, with no spectators allowed as per the regulations implemented by the South African Football Association.

Cambridge saw an early lead into the match but was quickly followed by the Mackenzie team, resulting in an early score of 1-1.

Cambridge soon picked up the pace and entered the half-time mark with a lead of 3-1.

The second half saw Cambridge dominating the ball with four more goals, ending the match with a final score of 7-1.

“The boys showed some signs of rustiness,” said coach Dennis Metsana after the Saturday match. “The break had an impact on their momentum, but we hope to go all the way to win the league.”

On August 15, the Cambridge team faced the Playaz Football Club that proved to be more intense than the previous day.

The first half saw Boy Mkhonazi of the Cambridge team score, placing his team at a lead of 1-0 going into the second half.

The Playaz team picked up some slack in the second half of the match, and after a very tight and competitive half, ended the game with a final score of 1-1.

The final two matches of the league will determine whether the Cambridge team make it to the play-offs.
