Heritage Day celebrated in Heidelberg.

Heritage day fun for young and old.

Heritage Day was celebrated in Heidelberg with crowds gathering for the Heidelberg Heritage Great Train Race.

The race initially started in 1930. A Bentley Coupe had a race against France’s Blue Train in a 750-mile race. Since then the race has been done in various other countries and towns. South Africa is no exception.

The local train race salutes this moment in history with a convoy of vintage and classic cars and motorbikes, a steam train and vintage aircraft.

Together with the vintage cars, Rovos Rail has now formed part of the Great Train Race. With Heritage Day celebrated around the country on September 24, Heidelberg welcomed people from far away and neighbouring towns with open arms.

Heidelberg and visitors came out in droves to witness the event first-hand.

The procession started at the Heidelberg train station in Stasie Street and went on to the Heidelberg Airfield where all the festivities took place.

It was a spectacle to see all the old cars, motorcycles and planes being part of the event. And the people who dressed up for the event made the day extra special.

Part of the event was the Puma Flying Lions aeroplanes entertaining the crowd.

At the airfield, there were activities for young and old and food for everyone’s pallet.

This was an event for the books and everyone enjoyed the outing.
