The N3TC Meals on Wheels Cycle Challenge was held on October 16 at Sedaven High School.
Participants could chose to compete in the 40km or 90km races.
“This is the 18th year we were able to host the event,” said Louis Harmse of the event organiser, Spectrum Sport Events.
“We are happy to be able to go back to normal with these types of events after Covid.
“Around 650 people entered for the races and we are happy to be able to give back to the community and help out organisations like Meals on Wheels who helps thousands of people.”
The 40km race winners were (places indicated from first to third):
• Ruan Bothma, with a time of 01:14:04.98 and a pace of 32.4km/h
• Martin Erasmus, with a time of 01:14:11.89 and a pace of 32.3km/h
• Rindie Swanepoel, with a time of 01:15:10.25 and a pace of 31.9km/h
The 90km race winners were:
• Kimhan van der Merwe, with a time of 02:03:07.59 and a pace of 43.9km/h
• Jaco Charles van Dyk, with a time of 02:03:07.89 and a pace of 43.9km/h
• Casper Kruger, with a time of 02:03:10.85 and a pace of 43.8km/h
All race finishers received medals and category winners received trophies.
All funds raised by this event contributes towards meals for the elderly in the Heidelberg, Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark areas.
Participants were also encouraged to bring canned food in support of the Meals on Wheels Food project.
