The school awarded its learners in the agricultural sector during an award ceremony on December 1.

JJ Masipa Technical Occupational School awarded learners for their hard work on December 1.

Four learners in the agricultural sector were also awarded.

Seta-accredited training providers Lizette Brazendale (Agri-skills transfer) and Attie du Toit (assessor) were on hand to ensure the learners were educated daily.

They gained skills during job shadowing within different areas in the agricultural sector.

The learners were not only taught theory but also enjoyed job shadowing within their sponsor businesses, including Pick n Pay Heidelberg (bakery and vegetable sections), Escort (factory floor) and Quality Meats (vegetable and meat cuts).

This was done to ensure learners received hands-on experience about what needs to be done and what is expected.

The school principal, Olive Nyabole, told the learners to implement what they learnt.

Nyobole said the only thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve is the fear of failure.

“Success is not an activity but a process you work on every day,” she said.

Nyabole also said that the school is extremely proud of the learners and how they conducted themselves throughout the course.

The course duration was from May and finished in November.

The learners were also taught in various agricultural fields that included livestock, animal behaviour skills, marking and tagging livestock, observation skills, greenhouse and growing vegetables to name a few.

Various heads of departments were present for the award ceremony.

District director Pheello Metsing awarded the top two learners with a medal for their hard work.

The top two learners were Thomas Reatlegile Masekela (average of 79%) and Altonia Lehlohonolo Mofokeng (average of 76%)

A special thank you was expressed to Louis le Grange from the Gauteng Educational Department who took the school under his wing and taught every learner what dedication and loyalty stand for.

In closing the proceedings, Metsing also said JJ Masipa Technical Occupational School is an example for other schools to follow.
