A 5-year-old boy was attacked by their neighbour’s dog while watching movies with his friend on February 7.
Henrico Harris was playing at his friend’s home who resides in the same complex, when his dad Victor called him around 19:30.
Victor said his neighbour suggested that Henrico should stay longer and watch a movie after having supper with them, seeing that the children were having fun playing together.
“Around 19:50 I heard my neighbour shouting my name and I stepped outside. She was running towards me carrying my son in her arms”, Victor said.
“I noticed the blood pouring form his head and instinctively took him from her arms”, he added.
According to Victor, the owner of the complex lives on the property and owns a Siberian Husky.
“My neighbour said the children were sitting on a blanket watching a movie when the Husky entered the house and started barking at my son. As my son stood up, the dog attacked and bit him on the head”, Victor said.
Henrico was taken to Heidelberg Hospital where he was treated for shock and a lacerated wound to his head.
According to Victor, the doctors refrained from stitching the wounds as it may have increased his state of circulatory shock which could lead to a comatose state.
Henrico stays with his mother during the week and visits his father over weekends.
“My son refuses to visit me since the incident as the dog is still on the property and therefore I decided to open a case of assault against the owner”, Victor said.
SAPS Nigel’s spokesperson W/O Madeleine von Wielligh said the police is currently investigating the attack and will be in contact with Nigel SPCA, should the animal be removed.
