Cambridge draw match against Luso Africa

The Cambridge team played host at the Mackenzieville Stadium during the match.

The Cambridge FC team faced Luso Africa from Germiston on November 20 at the Mackenzieville Stadium.

The match ended 1-1.

“The match was a tricky affair,” said Cambridge coach Ignatius Maphike.

“Cambridge began the match well by controlling possession of the ball, but the Luso Africa team held a physical advantage with their taller and stronger players. But our boys didn’t let that intimidate them and showed the opposing team that we can compete.”

Cambridge created a lot of chances to score but failed to capitalise early on.

It was Luso Africa who broke through the home team’s defence, resulting in Cambridge midfielder Fanky Kodisang making a foul and conceding a penalty.

The converted penalty left Cambridge trailing 1-0 in the first 10 minutes.

The Cambridge team, playing in white, held up an excellent line of defence.

Cambridge kept up the pressure, which paid dividends when captain Gift “Chigo” Skarnek converted a penalty to make the score 1-1.

Neither team managed to use the opportunities to score in the second half.

“The team played very well in front of their home crowd,” said head coach Godfrey Hermanus.

“I am happy with the team’s performance, but not with the draw,” Maphike concluded.

“We need to collect maximum points at home, but I credit the boys in their performance. Thank you to the community for coming out to show their support We appreciate it and we need them even for away games.”
