Awareness and wellness event deemed successful

KT Wash and Detergent held an awareness and wellness day on October 28 for the benefit of its staff and other stakeholders.

Various organisations joined the business to create awareness of health issues as well as to ensure the wellness of their members.

Simphiwe Mngomezulu, Nomsa Yende, Lizzy Moloi and Nomandla Mabizela from the Itumeleng Sechaba HBC organisation provided the crowd with various health assessments and screenings.

Experts talked with those in attendance regarding issues most people often deem as unimportant.

After this, members from Gym 2000 helped to get the crowd active with a fitness class.

Dr Wessel Neuhoff, the company’s practitioner, spoke to the members about Covid-19 and safety.

Members could then speak to experts for free regarding health and safety issues.

Florence Mgobeni, the company’s EAP, spoke to the crowd about mental health and encouraged them to address any such issues sooner rather than later.

Staff members and stakeholders benefited from various screenings (including cancer, Covid-19, HIV and TB) and could test their blood sugar and pressure, speak to advocates against gender-based violence and speak to the employee assistance personnel regarding workplace issues.

Members could also partake in a fitness class and demonstration.

Those who needed to could also discuss drug and substance abuse with experts from Alcoholics Anonymous or the Elim Clinic.

Thabo Motoung and Tebogo Pitsi from Casoojees Optometrist were ready to give the attending crowd advice on eye care and health.
SANBS also provided a space for those who wished to donate blood to be able to do so. Fezile Mjekevu and Lorainn Malapisane represented the organisation at the event.
Sr Thabita Masemda of KT Wash and Detergents organised the event for employees and other stakeholders who might not always be able to get the necessary help or health advice because of work.
Sr Thembi Sheleza, Sr Magda Lombard, Sr Betty van Schalkwyk (health promoter) and Michelle Bezhuidenhout represented the Nigel Clinic at the event and provided the crowd with various screenings and health tests, which included demonstrations on how to do breast and prostate examinations.
