Cambridge FC hosts friendly match

Cambridge FC hosted the friendly match against the Springs United FC at the Jim Fouché Stadium.

Cambridge FC played host to Springs United FC on October 3 in a friendly match at the Jim Fouché Stadium in town.

The Springs United team had competed in the ABC Motsepe League, one league above what the Cambridge team will be competing in this season, the SAB Ekurhuleni Regionals Men’s League, which the team is currently preparing for.

Due to the heavy rains and lightning, the game started at 11:00.

“Our team didn’t disappoint,” said coach Ignatius Maphike.

“They showed that they could play against the big boys, and took control of the ball position and dominated the game from the start despite playing in the difficult and wet conditions.

“We created a lot of opportunities to score, but we failed to convert them, and that is where the boys from Springs showed us their technical advantage.

“But we still managed to keep a strong line of defence.”

The second half of the match saw the team coming out stronger in terms of technical skills and strong defence; however, it failed to put itself on the board.

The match ended with a tied score of 0-0.

“I was very impressed with the team’s performance,” said head coach Godfrey Hermanus, who will be leading the team in the upcoming league.

“The boys showed heart and didn’t give up.”
