A motor vehicle destroyed the palisade fencing of a home after the driver lost control on January 17.
Manny da Silva and his family were woken up by a loud crash at their home in Heidelberg Road at 03:10.
“I went outside to find a Hyundai Accent in my front garden with the driver still inside”, Manny said.
The driver missed a tree in front of the house by inches and burst through the palisade walling.
Manny bought the house over 40 years ago and said this was the first time something like this has happened.
Nigel police and Safari Towing Company personnel removed the car from the family’s garden at 05:00.
The driver was arrested by Nigel police and was granted bail in the Nigel Regional Court on January 26 on charges of malicious damage to property, reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He appeared in court on January 30 where the case was postponed to February 27 for the implementation of a mediation process.
Manny said the estimated damage to their property is R70 000.
“The entire wall need to be replaced as well as a section of the electric fencing”, he said.
