Local football clubs clash

The Cambridge Football Club won the match 4-2 against the Umnyovo Football Club the past weekend.

On May 23 the MacKenzieville Alrapark Football Association (MAFA) hosted the biggest match on their calendar between local teams Cambridge Football Club and Umnyovu Football Club.

The match was held at the Mackenzieville Stadium.

Supporters were allowed to watch the match under strict Covid-19 regulations.

The match started slowly, with both teams struggling to find momentum. Cambridge had possession of the ball for the majority of the match. After the first half, the teams were tied 0-0.

The second half offered fans much better entertainment, as Cambridge picked up the pace.

The first goal of the match was scored by Boy Mkwanazi, the Cambridge striker, who headed the ball into the net from a cross-pass by right-wing Sipho Hlathwayo.

Not long after this, defender Komosto Ledwaba scored a long-distance goal for Cambridge, putting the club in a comfortable lead for much of the second half.

Umnyovu Football Club held up a good defence for the first half of the match.

Umnyovu scored two goals, but Cambridge won 4-2.

“I am impressed with the team’s second-half performance,” said the Cambridge coach, Denis Metsana.

“I am happy, although it was not easy. I hope the community enjoyed the match as well.”
