The Gauteng Canoe Union racing dates
The Gauteng Canoe Union has released their racing dates, as well as some of the well-known national and international racing dates.
The first of a series of marathon canoe preparation races has commenced at Benoni’s Homestead Dam on April 11.
The other dates are:
• April 18: Florida Lake Canoe Club, Roodepoort
• April 25: Johannesburg Canoe Club, Wemmer Pan
• May 1 to 4: Hour Enduro, Dabulamanzi CC, Emmarentia Dam
• May 8 and 9: Gauteng Marathon Championship, selections and trials at Victoria Lake CC, Germiston Lake
Marathon races must include a portage every few laps per the International Canoe Federation requirements.
In May, Gauteng will host the Gauteng Canoe Union Marathon Championships over two days, K1 (singles) on Saturday and K2 (doubles) on Sunday. Selections will be done for the Gauteng team to represent the province at the South African marathon championships later in the year, where the teams will be identified for the world marathon canoe champions.
• May 21 to 23: South African Marathon Championships and Primary Trial Peninsula Canoe Club, Western Cape
• September 27 and 28: ICF Masters World Championship in Romania
• September 3 to October 3: ICF World Canoe Marathon Championship in Romania
