Drunken drivers arrested

Five hundred and nine drivers found to have taken one glass too many landed behind bars between September 24 and 27 in the City of Ekurhuleni.

EMPD officers from the south, north and eastern regions, including the Social Crime Prevention Units with Specialised Services, conducted roving and static drunken driving roadblocks over the semi-long weekend.

Operations yielded 386 in the southern region of the City: Alberton, Boksburg, north and south of Germiston, Thokoza, Vosloorus and Zonkizizwe areas. In the east (Brakpan, Nigel, Springs, Tsakani, Etwatwa, Kwa-Thema and Daveyton), 54 were taken to relevant police stations. In the northern region (Edenvale, Kempton Park, Sebenza, Thembisa and Olifantsfontein) 69 were booked in at different lawful custodies.

“All the arrestees, are expected to appear in the respective magistrate’s courts soon. This is an ongoing operation,” Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said.
