Two residents were targets of two separate robberies at ATM machines in the past week.
The first incident took place on October 29 at about 10:00 when a 55-year-old man withdrew money from an ABSA ATM in Hendrik Verwoerd Street.
“The man also had additional cash in his possession prior to withdrawing money,” SAPS Nigel spokesperson W/O Madeleine von Wielligh said.
“He was approached by a man who introduced himself and told him to be careful and not talk to strangers. However, he managed to take his money and swap his bank card while talking to him”, W/O Von Wielligh stated.
A theft case is being investigated with no arrests yet made.
In another incident, a 65-year-old woman who went to withdraw money at the Standard Bank ATM at The Angelo Mall was also robbed.
According to W/O Von Wielligh, the woman said that on October 31 at 12:10, as she was withdrawing money, a man approached her and offered his assistance. The woman declined his offer but the man persisted and forced his way onto her. After the woman started creating a scene by pushing the man away, he left. The woman later realised the man swapped her bank card and withdrew money at another ATM.
SAPS Nigel opened a case of robbery with no arrests made as yet.
