Taxi accident leaves 14 school children injured

Several learners from Nigel injured after their taxi collided with a passenger vehicle in Rensburg.

14 Learners from Nigel Primary School and Hoërskool John Vorster were injured after the minibus taxi that they were traveling in, collided with a Toyota Fortuner this morning (February 24) just after 07:00.

The learners who all live in Heidelberg, but go to school in Nigel sustained moderate to serious injuries and were taken to the Life Suikerbosrand- as well as Heidelberg Hospital.

 

According to eye witnesses the taxi was travelling in Coen Labuschagne Street. It just entered the intersection between Coen Labuschagne- and Gabriel Street when it collided with the oncoming Hilux SUV driven by Nadia Schilt. She was traveling with her two children.

 

The learners, driver of the taxi as well as the Schilt family received medical treatment on the scene before they were transported to the hospitals.

Heidelberg SAPS are investigating the cause of the accident.
