This follows months of training and the subsequent successful completion of a BOSASA food preparation and cooking (level 1) programme by the prisoners.

“Through the skills development programme we wish to build a community of responsible prisoners that can contribute positively to their communities and victims of crime. Upon their release, prisoners should carry a sense of worth and a skill that will ensure self-sustainability,” Mr Chris Snyman, head of NCS explained.

During the ceremony, prisoners Sifiso Cebekhulu, Japhta Mlotshwa, Respect Nongila and David Olowe each received an accredited entry level certificate in Food Preparations and Cooking, which could provide them an opportunity to successfully contribute to the economy after their release from prison.

Delivering congratulatory messages, Prof J Doinet (head of training and development at BOSASA) urged them to complete all levels of the culinary programme.
