Spokesperson for Lesedi Local Municipality survives shooting during hijacking

Five days after being shot in the stomach by a hijacker in Ratanda, HERAUT visited Lesedi Local Municipality spokesperson Arthur Thokoane in hospital, where he shared his memory of his near death experience.

Thokoane was a victim of a hijacking which occurred at a friend’s house in Ratanda (Heidelberg) on January 12.

During the hijacking, he was shot in the lower abdomen and is currently recovering in the intensive care unit of a nearby hospital.

“Although I am lucky to be alive, the incident has scarred me physically and emotionally,” he said.

The police in Ratanda are investigating a case of hijacking and attempted murder.

Thokoane has thanked the police, medical staff, family, friends and colleagues from work who came to his aid and support and still encourage him to work through the ordeal.
