Nigel Crime Report – 17 to 21 May

Here is the latest crime report for Nigel.

A case of malicious damage to property was reported to the police on May 17. The incident occurred in Nigel central business district where a car was broken into. The ignition was reportedly damaged and police suspect it was an attempt to steal the car.

 
Police are investigating a hi-jacking which occurred on May 17. The victim was later left alongside the road in Hallgate and told police that he was driving to Krugersdorp for work, when his vehicle (a Toyota Legend bakkie) was sandwiched by two other cars near Hekpoort. An unknown African male approached him and asked for directions, when another appeared at the passenger’s door and aimed at him with a fire-arm. They took the victim’s cellphone and money and drove for some time, before leaving him next to the road. The bakkie was later recovered in Melrose, Johannesburg.

 
A burglary occurred at a house in Bosbok Avenue on May 18. A laptop worth around R14 000 was stolen.

 
Police are also investigating a burglary which occurred at a house in York Street on Mary 18, where all the water taps inside the house were stolen. Damage as a result of flooding is estimated at around R100 000.

 
A pool pump and ladder were stolen from a house in Pretorius Street on May 18, while two bicycles were stolen from a house in Caledon Street the same day. A gas bottle was stolen from a house in Milner Street.

 
A car (blue Ford Laser) was stolen at The Angelo Mall on May 18. One suspect was arrested for dealing in dagga on May 19. According to police spokesperson Sgt Nellie Dwaba, the suspect was arrested in Gazelle Drive, Alrapark. He is expected to appear in Nigel Magistrate’s Court later this week.

 
A female was robbed of her money at an ATM at The Angelo Mall on May 20. A suspect was arrested, following a break-in which occurred in Breytenbach Street on May 20.

 
An electric gate motor was stolen at a house in York Street on May 21.
