Two killed in alleged taxi violence related shooting incident in Tsakane

Third person involved in shooting is recovering in hospital

Two people were shot and killed and a third seriously injured during a shooting which occurred around 05:00 this morning in Tsakane.

According to Sgt Harry Manaka (Ekurhuleni East Cluster Corporate spokesperson) the shooting occurred just outside the gates of Pholosong Hospital and is believed to be related to local taxi violence in the area.

“The deceased’ were employed by a security company that has been contracted to provide personal protection to members of the Brakpan Taxi Association. They had just collected one of the members and were driving along Ndaba Street in a marked VW Golf 7 GTI, when they were attacked by several suspects in two different vehicles,” Sgt Manaka said.

One of the vehicles allegedly passed the Golf and blocked it from the front, while shots were then fired from the tailing vehicle. The driver of the Golf was fatally injured. Two passengers were rushed to the hospital, but one later succumbed to his injuries.

Tsakane police cordoned off the area to where the Gauteng Provincial Investigation Unit and the Taxi Violence Investigations Unit were summoned.

The motive of the shooting is not yet known and the suspects are still at large.

Police are investigating two cases of murder and one of attempted murder.
