Deputy principal’s killers still at large

Pastoral and counselling services provided to learners and educators of school

Police are still on the hunt for three suspects who shot and killed Maswazi Nyembe, the deputy principal of Edalinceba Primary School in Duduza on September 26.

According to SAPS Duduza spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka a murder case was opened and police are following up on all available leads. Police members maintained their presence at the school in order to make teachers and learners feel safe.

“Although it appears to have been a planned hit on Mr Nyeme, the motive of the killing remains unknown and is still being investigated,” said Manaka.

Pastoral and counselling services have been provided to staff members and learners. During a visit to the school, Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi also said more has to be done to protect schools in Gauteng and that the department is looking into the matter of installing security cameras at schools.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been finalised, as Nyembe’s family members are awaiting the post mortem investigation to be concluded.
