Freedom Fighters deny fighting each other

Uncertainty reigns as the Ratanda branch prepares for a reshuffle.

Outgoing Economic Freedom Fighters chief whip for Lesedi Local Municipality, Isaac Khithika, has denied that his redeployment in the party has caused a rift.

According to a source who is afraid that the he may be punished by the party for speaking out, a group meeting on January 21 at the Ratanda Youth Centre turned violent when two factions within the party attacked each other.

“There were no fights that I am aware of,” Khithika told HERAUT.

“All is well in the EFF and we are just waiting for the party to give direction as far as our future plans in this area are concerned.”

The source insisted that the lives of many people were at risk when a fight broke between factions who supported either Ward 5 candidate Lefa Bunny Mojatau or Kenny Tsotetsi of Ward 2 to take over from Khithika.

“The one person drew a knife and the shirt of a member was torn off,” the man told HERAUT.

“We feared for our lives and all we can hope for now is that the provincial leadership takes action against those who caused the chaos.”

Neither Mojatau or Tsotetsi could be reached for comment.
