Case of arson investigated after fire at school in Balfour

Damage amounts to R4 million.

Three classrooms of the Setsheng Secondary School in Balfour were destroyed in a fire on Sunday night at about 19:00.

According to Constable Virginia Mavuso (spokesperson: Balfour SAPS) community members alerted the police that the school was on fire. They had to wait for the emergency services from Grootvlei who brought the fire under control.

The estimated damage to the building is around R4 million.
The motive or cause of the fire is unknown but Constable Mavuso confirmed that police are investigating a case of arson.
