Robbery victim dies after fatal stabbing

Driver dies after trying to defend his cargo against armed robbers.

The driver of a delivery truck died of multiple stab wounds while trying to fend off his assailants during a robbery in broad daylight on August 24.

The driver and crew of a bakery delivery truck arrived around 11:40 at the Madiba supermarket in Khanye Street, Extension 3, Ratanda when they were approached by two suspects. One of the suspects carried a knife and they demanded cash from the victims.

The 47-year-old driver tried to fend them off and he was fatally stabbed and died on the scene. The robbers made off on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Constable Xolani Mkhize (spokesperson) is appealing to the public to come forward with information about the incident by phoning the station on 016 343 6000 or 016 343 6025 or send an anonymous tip to the sms line 32211.
