Paul Mpele has officially been introduced as the new CFO during the March council meeting. He was arrested by the Hawks in October 2012 after R3.2 million disappeared from the municipality’s coffers during 2009. Mpele was also the Thaba Chweu Local Municipality’s CFO in 2009.

He resigned after massive protests erupted when residents learned of the disappearance of the money and was appointed as the CFO of the Umjindi Local Municipality in Barberton.

HERAUT has asked Lesedi Local Municipality to explain why a person who has been investigated for misconduct be appointed for such a crucial position such as a CFO of the municipality. LLM’s official answer will be published once it has been released.
