Ex-teacher celebrates 80 years

“She is a remarkable woman with strength and character.”

Rosaline Smith celebrated her 80th birthday on August 16.

The former teacher has been married to doctor reverend Layton Smith for 61 years. They have six children, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Rosaline started her teacher training in 1961 at the Zonnebloem College in District Six, Cape Town, and retired from Alra Park Primary School in August 2009.

She continued to work for the Gauteng Provincial Department until she was 74.

“She is a remarkable woman. A woman with strength and character and a woman of faith. We were blessed to have celebrated her 80th birthday and grateful for the mother and mentor she is for to family and community,” said her daughter, Edger Smith.
