Summit helps empower informal traders
MMC for Developmental Planning and Real Estate, Ald Nomadlozi Nkosi has urged women to use the opportunity to register and acquire trading permits from the city.
Nkosi was speaking during the informal traders summit held at Rabasotho Community Hall in Thembisa on Wednesday.
The informal traders summit was held as part of Women’s Month commemorations.
She said that informal trading is one of the ‘critical components of Ekurhuleni and the country’s economic development’.
“This is why we are streamlining this process which will allow you to trade with dignity, security and stability.
“The permits are not just a piece of paper, they are your gateway to a better future.
“This gives you the opportunity to trade legally, and opens doors to support services, training and resources that are provided by aimed at boosting your business,” Nkosi said.
She further pointed out that the city is allocating land to aspirant farmers, and 6000 applications were received.
“That is the reason I am urging all of you informal traders and small businesses to register so that you can do proper business with the city.
“There are a lot of opportunities that you will be able to access by registering,” emphasised Nkosi
