124 suspects arrested and 50 vehicles recovered by SAPS

Successful operations by Rapid Response Services between June 7 and 13 saw the arrests and recoveries.

Rapid Response Services, comprising the Flying Squad, K9 Units and Highway Patrol members throughout Gauteng, arrested 124 suspects and recovered 50 motor vehicles and five firearms between June 7 and 13.

The members participated in various concentrated operations, vehicle checkpoints, secure escorts and intensive patrols around Gauteng.

These operations led to 54 arrests for serious crimes, including assault common and GBH, theft, possession of suspected stolen property, reckless and negligent driving, domestic violence, rape, business burglary, shoplifting and contempt of court.

Fifty hijacked and stolen motor vehicles were recovered, with 14 arrests for the possession of these vehicles.
Five unlicensed firearms were recovered, accompanying 11 arrests.

In further policing, 45 arrests were made for the possession of and dealing in drugs.

Heroin, dagga, cocaine, Mandrax and crystal meth were among the drugs confiscated in these separate incidents.
Investigations continue in these cases.

The suspects will appear in local magistrate’s courts across Gauteng.
