Robbery and shots fired in Heidelberg

Local store robbed.

Armed robbers targeted a furniture store in Voortrekker Street on January 19 at around 16:30.

As the perpetrators attempted to make their getaway, a Lesedi traffic official pulled over the vehicle in which they were travelling.

The official became suspicious when he saw the car speeding down the street. The car also seemed to have too many occupants.

The traffic official was unaware of the robbery at the store, and as he attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupants opened fire on him.

It is reported that one occupant leaned out of the window and fired at the traffic officer. No one was injured or wounded in the shooting.

The robbers sped to the N3 north highway. Law enforcement officials gave chase, but the robbers evaded capture.
It is not clear how many robbers were involved or what was stolen during the incident.

Anyone with information about the perpetrators’ whereabouts is urged to contact Heidelberg SAPS.
