Women EMPD officers honoured

In the 20 years of existence of the department, significant growth has been seen.

Fifty-three EMPD women officers were honoured for long and outstanding services at a gala dinner on August 29.
Various awards were conferred on the deserving recipients.

Since its establishment in 2002, the EMPD opened its doors to the selection and recruitment of women, once a previously male-dominated environment.

In the 20 years of existence, significant growth has been seen by the previously excluded.

The city manager, DrImogen Mashaza, said: “We are determined to see women in management and for them to excel in those positions”.

She ended her keynote address by saying that as a woman climbing up the ladder, to not forget to take another woman with you.

The celebrated 53 officers have now taken on the task of imparting knowledge, all the while striving to excel in service delivery as guided by the Batho Pele principles.

With the conclusion of Women’s Month, the EMPD expressed its appreciation to the uniformed women in the city, who go out of their way to raise children, address social ills and depict the spirit of ubuntu. After all, it takes a village to raise a child.
